AVAYA – IP Office Unified Communications (UC) Module

The UC Module is an embedded server that allows Linux based IP Office applications to be run within the IP Office control unit rather than requiring separate PCs.

The Avaya IP Office UC Module is a Base Module and resides in one of the 4 bays in the front of the IP Office. The UC Module does not support a daughter card. (ATM-4 or PRI)

There are two types of card: The UC Module v2 is supported by IP Office Release 9.1 and higher. The UC Module v1 is supported for IP Office Release 8.0 Q1 2012 Service Pack or higher. Though physically different, the two types of card current support the same applications and application capacities. However, the v2 does not provide an implied Preferred Edition license and is not supplied with pre-installed software.

The Avaya IP Office UC Module Supports Voicemail Pro and or one-X Portal for IP Office applications:

♦ IP Office Users: Up to 200 users when running Voicemail Pro and one-X Portal for IP Office. More than 200 users when running just Voicemail Pro.

♦ Simultaneous one-X Portal for IP Office Users: 50.

♦ Maximum voicemail ports: Up to 20 ports when running Voicemail Pro and one-X Portal for IP Office. Up to 40 ports when running just Voicemail Pro.

♦ Small Community Network: Maximum 6 systems.

Licenses:

For both card types, an Essential Edition license is required as a pre-requisite. The voicemail server on the card also requires the system to have a Preferred Edition license.

♦ On pre-IP Office Release 10 systems the Unified Communications Module v1 grants the host system the virtual Preferred Edition license it needs for Voicemail Pro. This no longer applies for IP Office Release 10 and higher. Existing IP Office systems being upgraded to IP Office Release 10 must use the IP Office license migration process to retain the existing license.

♦ Maximum per Control Unit: 1 per control unit.

♦ IP Office Modes: Not supported in IP Office Basic Edition mode.

The Avaya IP Office UC Module eliminates the need to manage a Windows machine and maintain compatibility between Windows OS versions and Avaya IP Office software releases when using Preferred Edition Messaging (Voicemail PRO).

Video Surveillance NVR Versus DVR

The difference between an NVR and DVR is confusing to many

Network Video Recorders (NVRs) record IP Cameras

Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) record Analog/Coax Based Cameras

IP Cameras connect to an NVR directly or through a Network/PoE Switch over standard Data Cabling (CAT5e or better)

Analog Cameras connect to a DVR over Coax Cable via a BNC connector.

Video on an NVR is Encoded and Processed at the IP Camera, then Streamed to the NVR for Storage or Remote Viewing

Video on a DVR is Encoded and Processed at the DVR

A Network Video Recorders (NVR) is a Software Program that Records Video in a Digital Format to a Hard Disk, USB Flash Drive, SD Card, etc. An NVR contains no dedicated video capture hardware, but, the software usually runs on a dedicated device

A Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) has a small chip inside to Encode and Process the Analog Video into Digital Format for viewing and playback

The ONLY time you need to connect a DVR or NVR to the Internet, is IF you want to be able View the Video Remotely, or receive alerts from the system.

Network Video Recorders (NVRs) with IP Cameras support Video Resolution from 2-Megapixel up to 12-Megapixel (and higher)

deo Recorders (DVRs) with their Analog/Coax Based Cameras only support Video Resolution up 1080p

If you’re looking for Facial Recognition or License Plate numbers, then you want the Higher Resolution provided by Network Video Recorders (NVRs) and IP Cameras!

Enhanced Security Monitoring with HDR: These Lorex Security Cameras use HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology that work to ensure you capture the most important details, regardless of lighting conditions.

Enhanced Clarity in Low-Light Situations: These Lorex Security Cameras use DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) technology to filter out noise from low-light settings as well as any noise caused by motion. By eliminating graininess, these cameras provide a cleaner, more accurate image with better clarity, sharpness, and improved motion detection, enhancing your HD experience even in the dark! Not only does DNR reduce noise, but it reduces video file sizes as well, giving you greater disc space for storage.

Color Night Vision and True HDR: Lorex’s exclusive Color Night Vision (CNV) lets you see fully colored images in low-light conditions for clear identification at night. Most security cameras rely on IR night vision in low-lighting, which only provides black & white images. You can capture more informative video evidence with full-color images. For a security camera that performs in all sorts of challenging lighting conditions, True High Dynamic Range (HDR) improves image clarity in high-contrast lighting, revealing details in extremely bright and dark areas of the image.

The corrosion-resistant aluminum body makes these cameras perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, protecting them from even the harshest of weather; rain, snow, or hail. Engineered from the same material that is used in construction of airplanes and cars, these Lorex cameras are strong enough to withstand large impacts unlike conventional plastic security cameras.

Rugged Security-Grade Hard Drive Preinstalled: The NR8182 includes a hefty 2TB security grade hard drive preinstalled. This heavy-duty hard drive is built for specifically for security camera systems.

Ethernet Cable Comparison

What type of Ethernet Cable should you have installed, CAT5e, CAT6, or CAT6a ?

Ethernet cables are defined by sequentially numbered Categories (CAT) based on different specifications.  Voice Grade Cabling is CAT3.  Early Ethernet Cabling was CAT5.  Further clarification, testing standards, or improvements sometimes creates the need to update the Category, ie; CAT5e, or CAT6a.

CAT5e Cable is good for 10/100/1000MB (1-Gigabit) use up to 100 meters (100Mhz)

CAT6 Cable is good for 10/100/1000MB (1-Gigabit) use up to 100 meters (250Mhz)

CAT6 Cable is good for 10/100/1000/10,000MB (10-Gigabit) use up to 55 meters (250Mhz)

CAT6a Cable is good for 10/100/1000/10,000MB (10-Gigabit) use up to 100 meters (500Mhz)

The higher the CAT number, the higher the speed and Mhz of the cable. Each Category requires more stringent testing and requires the elimination of more crosstalk.

You will need your cable installed correctly or you won’t obtain the speeds the cable is capable of.  Just because you have CAT6 Cable, does NOT mean that you will 1Gb network speeds. Every termination and connection in your network must be installed to standard in order to support the 1Gb speed.

The main difference between CAT6 and CAT6a is that CAT6a was revised/augmented to provide testing up to 500Mhz which doubled the 250Mhz capability of CAT6.  That’s why CAT6a can support 10Gb up to 100 meters, while CAT6 can only support 1Gb up to 100 meters.

IP Office R11 License Upgrade Notes

With R11, IP Office utilizes Product License and Delivery System (PLDS) licensing for new system deployments. Resellers & Installers benefit from self-service licensing management.

The Avaya One Source (A1S) upgrade configuration option will simplify and automate upgrades to IP Office R11.0, it’s the same process used for R10/R10.1. (This process supports both transactional/paid or support entitled upgrades)

Avaya will continue to support aftermarket (ADI) licensing for user and trunking for those customers (Pre – R10) who may need to expand their system, but are not ready to upgrade to R11 (PLDS).

Support for the new J169 and J179 IP phones will be included with IP Office R11. These two new IP phones will address the need for everyday voice communications. The Vantage Basic software client will also be supported and will introduce the all glass Vantage device to the Midmarket.

R11 Software: IP Office R11 software/binaries will be available through PLDS or the support site. Customers will be required to upgrade to R11 using paid or entitled R11 release upgrade licenses and apply the R11 software load using Manager.

IF the IP Office system is running R10/10.1, which is all PLDS licensing; the PLDS upgrade processes would apply.

ONLY if you are on PRE-R10 (ADI Licensing) and Upgrading to R10/10.1/11 (PLDS Licensing) will you need to use the .xml license migration file and processes for an upgrade.

Resellers must go through the A1S design/ordering process to obtain an upgrade from IPO R10 to R11. However, they do NOT have to upload the XML file for license migration for R10 to R11 designs. Use the standard PLDS and A1S design process for upgrade/entitled upgrade and activation.
