Intermedia Hosted Exchange?

Get cloud-based Microsoft Exchange business email from the world’s largest independent Exchange provider.

Microsoft Exchange is the world’s leading platform for unifying a business’s email, calendar and contacts. More than 470 million mailboxes worldwide leverage Exchange to communicate, collaborate and compete at a Fortune 50 level.

So what is “hosted”?
In the past, Microsoft Exchange was deployed on-premises. This meant you needed to buy a server, pay for licenses, and hire an IT person to install and maintain it.

With Hosted Exchange, your Exchange server is installed and managed in the cloud, as a service, with no fees upfront. You get all the functionality of Exchange with none of the overhead. Intermedia performs all installation, maintenance, upgrade and support activities on your behalf for a predictable monthly fee.

Exchange vs. Outlook: What’s the difference?
Many people think Exchange and Outlook are synonymous. They’re not. Outlook is the program you use on your computer to access your email, calendar and contacts—which is powered by Exchange. And while you can actually use virtually any email client with Exchange, Exchange unlocks Outlook’s most sophisticated productivity features.

Choose your version of Exchange
Intermedia customers can choose between two versions of Exchange.

  • Exchange 2013: Cutting edge look and feel • Designed for mobility
  • Exchange 2010: Powerful communications and collaboration features

License mobility for Exchange and Lync
If you’re currently running Exchange or Lync on-premises, good news: you can transfer the value of your licenses into Intermedia’s cloud.

Reasons to use ECS as your Carrier Agent

Below are some reasons to use ECS as your Telecom Agent to order your Dial-Tone, Internet Access, Private Networking; ie; MPLS, Point to Point T1, etc.

ECS can act as your customer advocate:
Carrier Direct Reps don’t always act in your best interests. They are compensated by the amount you spend and continue to spend on your business telephone service, internet service and networking services, like MPLS & SIP. Agents are more likely to look for ways to save you money because they need to show their value.

ECS has experience with multiple providers:
Maybe there’s a carrier, like TW Telecom, XO or Integra, that’s offering attractive pricing, for a T1 or PRI, but you’re unsure about their service. Most likely an agent would have experience with the lesser known carrier, has clients using their service, and will be able to ease your fears.

ECS will provide you with independent information:
A carrier rep, that works for a company like Qwest, AT&T or Verizon, is not going to point out that only a certain amount of local calling is included with their integrated T1 or PRI service, for instance. Because an agent represents multiple providers, they don’t care which carrier you choose and are more likely to disclose information about a certain company’s limitations.

ECS s can provide you with more visibility:
Some carriers, Qwest for instance, allow agents to channel integrate with direct reps. This puts your agent in all the meetings related to your account, offering a level of visibility you wouldn’t receive if you dealt directly with the carrier’s account team.

You get more but you don’t pay more:
With an agent you receive expertise, customer service, product support and project management; but you don’t pay for those extras, the carrier does.

ECS can save you time and free up your staff:
Instead of having your staff members meet with multiple reps, from multiple providers, let an agent shop your services for you. Agents represent multiple providers; they can inventory your existing business phone lines and internet services, conduct audits, they know what questions to ask and what to look out for.

If you want an “UNBIASED”  review of your Carrier/Telco services, if your contract with your existing Carrier is expired, or is about to expire, CONTACT ECS NOW!

ECS is an authorized agent for, or associated with most national, regional, & local area Voice & Data Service Providers in our area, ie; Broadvox, CenturyLink, Integra, Verizon, Lightyear, XO, X5, Comcast, Level3, Broadwing, PAETEC, New Edge Networks, COVAD, etc.

Hosted PBX Versus On-Premise PBX – Comparison

There are differences between the two options. Understanding benefits and limitations makes it easier to determine the best option for a particular organization.

Hosted IP-PBX

  • Lower up-front equipment cost
  • Lower Initial set-up cost
  • Minimal maintenance costs
  • Easy to add extra lines
  • Upgrades and new features are usually included
  • Higher monthly cost due to renting features/system
  • SIP/IP Trunks only
  • Hosted IP-PBX only supports IP Phones (Requires CAT5 or better wiring for all phones)

On-Premise PBX

  • Higher initial equipment cost
  • Higher initial set-up cost
  • Minimal maintenance costs
  • Lower monthly cost than Hosted
  • No monthly cost for features/system
  • Analog lines, PRI, or SIP Trunks all work (SIP is current & prevalent)
  • By leasing equipment, monthly costs are usually lower than Hosted
  • On-Premise PBX may support analog devices (faxes, etc.)
  • On-Premise PBX may support NON-IP Phones (Avaya – Digital Phones) (No CAT5 required)
  • On-Premise PBX may be installed at a Co-Location facility for Resiliency

Hosted PBX Versus On-Premise PBX

There are cases to be made for both hosted IP-PBX & On-Premise IP-PBX. There are very few differences to the systems and their features. The move to an IP-PBX business phone system is beneficial regardless of which system is ultimately chosen.

What is Hosted IP-PBX?
Hosted PBX or hosted VoIP, otherwise known as an Internet phone system is one where the provider is responsible for housing most of the equipment as well as handling the technology required to provide the services of the phone system. The IP Phones will plug into an Ethernet Switch and the calls, signaling, and features are handled through an IP-PBX server at the provider’s location.  The provider of the hosted IP-PBX charges a monthly fee that includes calling minutes and potentially certain features. Charges can also be on a per minute calling basis.

What is On-Premise PBX?
On premise PBX is also known as an IP-PBX phone system. It is similar to a traditional PBX system in that it resides at your location in a computer equipment room or phone closet. The main difference is that an IP-PBX uses IP routing and a traditional PBX doesn’t. An IP phone connects to an IP-PBX using your LAN. Calls can go through a traditional phone company or your IP-PBX can connect to a SIP Trunking provider on the internet/in the cloud.
