Designing and Planning Structured Cabling

Your network cabling infrastructure can make your day to day life easier or much harder depending on how well it is designed and implemented. Designing and planning network cabling infrastructure for your building or office can simplify management of moves, adds, and changes. Having designed and implemented systems for clients throughout Seattle and Portland, our expertise will help you implement a “transparent”, structured cabling system that will allow you to concentrate on running your network.

ECS designs, installs, and maintains structured voice, data (computer network cabling, ie: Ethernet) and fiber-optic cabling systems. (single and multi-mode fiber optic)

Our network cabling infrastructure designs:

  • • Allow for adds, moves, and changes (MACs) quickly and easily
  • • Allow growth with minimal incremental cost
  • • Accommodate a wide variety of hardware configurations and network topologies
  • • Integrate with any computer and telephone system to allow for maximum flexibility
  • • Utilize high-quality, industry-leading components
  • • Will be certified to industry-standard specifications, such as TIA/EIA-568-B Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard.

In todays business world, a typical Ethernet infrastructure will be in place for 20-30 years, and critical technologies such as voice/telephone (VoIP), and video surveillance (IP-based video), that have traditionally been installed on separate copper and coaxial networks are now becoming part of the LAN network infrastructure.  We/ECS feel that it’s more critical than ever to select the right network cabling infrastructure partner from the beginning.

AVAYA IP Office R10 – Small Community Networking

Small Community Networking

IP Office systems linked by IP trunks can have Small Community Networking (SCN) enabled. Using SCN, the separate IP Office systems ‘learn’ each other’s extension numbers and user names. This allows extension calls between systems and support for a range of internal call features.

IP Office Small Community Networking currently supports a maximum of 1000 extensions across up to 32 IP Office systems.

To set up a small community network, the following are required:

  • • A working IP trunk between the IP Office systems that has been tested for correct voice and data traffic routing.
  • • For Small Community Networks of more than two IP Office systems, a star network configuration is recommended.
  • • VCM modules are required in all systems.
  • • The extension and group numbering on each system must be unique.
  • • The extension and group names on each system must be unique.
  • • We also recommend that all names and numbers (groups, line, services, etc.) on the separate IP Office systems are kept unique. (This will reduce potential maintenance confusion)
  • • All systems should use the same set of Telephony timers, especially the Default No Answer Time.

AVAYA IP Office R10 – IP500 V2 Control Unit

IP Office 500 Version 2 (IP500 V2) is a modular communications solution that scales from 2 to 384 extensions and up to 1000 subscribers over 32 sites in a Small Community Network (SCN). Not only can it support traditional analog and digital desk phones, it can also support IP and SIP based desk phones. Because it supports various types of trunk options like Analog, BRI, PRI (T1/E1), and SIP, the IP500 V2 is the ideal solution that satisfies the needs of the small and medium business.

With IP Office Preferred Edition and Unified Communications Module (UCM) installed in IP500 V2 system, additional unified communications features can be enabled like one-X Portal, Avaya Communicator, and Web Collaboration.

Not only can the IP500 V2 be operated in a stand-alone model, it can also be deployed as a gateway for Branch deployment to Avaya Aura or expansion unit to IP Office Server Edition or IP Office Select.

The IP500 V2 Control Unit contains four slots to house extension cards and VCM (Voice Compression Module) cards. There are two types of cards; base cards and daughter cards. Base cards include a front panel and ports for cable connections. Daughter cards can be added to a base card in order to provide additional facilities (typically trunk connections). The base cards come in a variety of types including digital station cards, analog phone cards, combination cards that include trunks and stations, 32 and 64 channel VCM cards, an expansion card; required to connect the maximum number of expansion units, and a UCM (Unified Communication Module) for Preferred Edition and applications support. The daughter cards, which are attached to certain base cards, include support for analog trunks, BRI trunks, and PRI trunks.

The expansion Units are preconfigured to provide a specific number of analog trunks, digital stations, and analog terminals.

Key Features:

  • • Proven reliability, dependable security: Contains no moving parts, such as hard drives or fans, which could fail or cause the unit to overheat.
  • • Built-in resiliency: For businesses with multiple locations, the IP500 V2 appliance can fail over to an appliance at a second site, delivering continuous operation and maintaining features across sites without the need for redundant hardware at each site.
  • • Flexibility: The IP500 V2 appliance can support IP, analog, and digital phones and/or trunks, all on the same system at the same time.
